May 17 is day 137 of the year (138 in a leap year). The Sun is then roughly 28° into Taurus, 4 days before it moves into Gemini, which places your birthday in the third of the sign’s three decans.
Taurus, third decan
Taurus closes with a decan shaded by Capricorn, which brings Saturn’s ambitious patience into your Venus nature. You are Taurus playing the long game. Where others want quick rewards, you tend to picture the house, the reputation, or the body of work you will have built after ten careful years. Discipline feels natural to you, and responsibility rarely scares you. You may come across as reserved at first, but your dry humor and unwavering dependability make you someone people lean on for decades.
Born on the 17th: birthday number 17
Born on the 17th, you combine the initiative of one with the inner depth of seven, adding up to eight, the number of achievement. You tend to think strategically, often seeing several moves ahead. Ambition comes paired with integrity; you want success that you can be proud of. You may appear reserved, but your confidence runs deep. The growth edge is softening your self-reliance enough to delegate and to accept help without feeling it as weakness.
1 + 7 = 8: The Achiever. The 8 root adds ambition, stamina and a feel for how power works to your life path. That path itself is calculated from your full birth date, every digit summed and reduced. This executive energy then has to fit with whatever larger lesson the final digit describes. Calculate your life path number.
Your birth tarot cards
The Hierophant, the card of Taurus. As keeper of tradition and steady teaching, the card shares the bull’s patience, its trust in lasting structures and its respect for wisdom built slowly, rooted in the earth and in what proves reliable.
Seven of Pentacles, the card of your decan (Saturn in Taurus in the Golden Dawn system). Be patient with what is still growing.
The Star, the card of your day number. After the storm of the card before it comes this calm, clear night of renewal. Hope, inspiration and a healing presence belong to it, along with the patience to keep believing. Let yourself hope again, then take one gentle step toward what you want.
The card of your whole birth date, year included, comes from the tarot birth card calculator.
Strengths and challenges
Strengths: strategic patience, dependable discipline, strategic thinking, integrity, loyalty. Growth edges: rigidity under pressure and reluctance to ask for help.
Love and compatibility
You take love seriously and prefer to build trust step by step. A partner earns your heart through consistency more than fireworks. Let yourself enjoy pleasure in the present, too, rather than always waiting for the relationship to be fully secure.
Serious about love, you look for a partner with substance and shared ambitions. You may be slow to commit, but steady once you do. Show your warm side more often; your partner may not see it otherwise.
Signs that often click with Taurus: Virgo, Capricorn, Cancer, Pisces. Compare any two signs.
Career and purpose
Long-term structures suit you well: management, real estate, engineering, legal work, or running an established business. You climb steadily and rarely lose your footing. Guard against overwork, and remember that rest is part of any lasting foundation.
A strategic mind like yours fits finance, management, research leadership, consulting, or entrepreneurship. You handle responsibility well and earn trust by getting quiet, measurable results. Long-term planning, the five-year kind, is one of your strongest skills.
Born in May
May feels like spring at full volume: gardens planted, graduations and Mother’s Day on the calendar, and long golden evenings stretching toward summer. People born in this month share its lushness. Emerald mirrors the deep green of new leaves, lily of the valley offers a tiny fragrant bell of joy, and hawthorn blooms along hedges like lace. Birthstone: emerald.
